❌ Punishing a kid does NOT teach them what TO do or how we want them TO behave. It just sends them into a ball of anger, fear, anxiety, or a place where they want vengeance! 🫣 It also can actually encourage them to shift the blame to someone else (to avoid upsetting you) or to become more sneaky to avoid getting caught next time they mess up. Instead, TEACH your child lovingly, calmly, respectfully. I helped my son unzip the couch cushions and wash them. We talked about where to have drinks too 🤣 But in all seriousness, have you, as an adult, spilled or knocked something over without meaning to? Sure you have. Would punishing you make you remember to be careful with your coffee next time? No. You’d do your best (as all humans do) and sometimes you’d just MAKE A MISTAKE. Can we stop holding our kids to higher standards than we have for ourselves please??? Thanks for coming to my TED talk 🤣🙏🏻 🌱🎙️ If you love this parenting stuff as much as me, please check out my NEW PODCAST! When you change the focus, people will flock to you if you’re holding something of value and you can communicate that. Most people don’t have anything of value. People just want their reward. That’s why no one comes to them. So how do you get something of value? You re-direct your whole focus. Ask yourself: What are the benefits? What are the greatest results? What are the measurable improvements I can bring to somebody? When you answer all those questions, you instantly find massive ways you can offer all kinds of advantages to people, which they’re going to want to seek out — particularly if they can do it free of risk, and free of effort, and free of obligation. . . . . . . #JayAbraham #TheAbrahamGroup #businessowner #businesstips #leadership #successfulmindset #entrepreneurship #growth #growthmindset #growyourown #marketingdigital #professional #expert #podcast #inspiration #teacher #legend #author #speaker

Where do you fall on the Courage versus Humanness scale? ⚖️ Let me break it down for you… Humanness is about the ‘human’ factor: empathy, kindness, consideration, aka ‘compassionateness’ or the ‘humane orientation’ in research (House et al., 2002; Seco & Lopez, 2014). The Courage-factor is about being assertive and standing up for yourself and for what’s right. You need to balance both. ⚖️ By striking the right balance between Humanness and Courage, you’ll create healthy and productive relationship at work (and at home!). P.S. Where do you fall on the courage vs humanness scale? (I’m definitely naturally higher on warmth, but I’ve been on a journey to elevate my courage factor). __________ 📖 This model first appeared as the ‘Compassion-Assertiveness Matrix in the context of Leader Trust: •Seco, V. M. M., & Lopes, M. P. (2014). Between compassionateness and assertiveness: A trust matrix for leaders. Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management (JIEM), 7(3), 622-644. Various authors & thought leaders have shared versions of similar models, including Simon Sinek and Kim Scott, who’ve applied the matrix to their own approaches to leadership, management, and communication. Similar dimensions are explored in cross-cultural GLOBE Project studies, incl. from Brodbeck & colleagues (2002), Schlösser & colleagues, and another paper from House & colleagues (2002).
