🥬 Food That’s Better Cooked 👉 This doesn’t mean you CAN’T eat these foods raw, because I still do as well, but they generally come with more benefits when eaten cooked. 🥬 Oxalates are naturally present in spinach and this can block iron absorption, so when you cook spinach, especially submerged in water, you reduce the oxalates and you are able to absorb more of the non-heme iron. 🥕 When you cook carrots vs eating them raw your body is able to absorb more of the antioxidants (caretenoids) in the carrots that give them their orange color. 🍅 When tomatoes are exposed to heat it breaks down the cell wall and releases more lycopene for you to absorb which is the main antioxidant in tomatoes that gives them their red color. 🫛 One of the best compounds in asparagus is Ferulic Acid, which is know for its potential cancer fighting abilites and you will absorb more of this when the cell walls of the asparagus are heated. 😆 Food Hacks 🍚 When you cook rice using the pasta method you get plenty of extra water, this water is high in starch, minerals, vitamins and amino acids that contribute to the look, feel and growth of your hair. To use as a deep conditioner, pour the rice water over damp hair after shampooing, massage into scalp and hair and allow to sit for 20 minutes. Then rinse out well with warm water and style. ( PMID: 29249922 ) ( PMID: 35133117 ) 🍋 You can repurpose those lemon peels and mix them with vinegar to create an acid based cleaning solution that will also smell good. I usually let the solution sit in the mason jar for a few days before pouring it into a bottle and using it. Keep in mind vinegar and lemon will not be safe for EVERY surface, so be mindful of where you are spraying it in your home. Certain countertop material, hardwood floors, etc would not be good for this solution. 🍌 Believe it or not, banana peels themselves do have some benefits and when you boil them in water for about 3-5 minutes or longer it releases L-Trypophan and Magnesium to the water, which are both very helpful for sleep. You then are left with a tea that also tastes quite good, because of the banana. I use organic bananas for this and I clean the peel well before making this tea. #health #tea #cleaning #rice #healthy
