Normalize crying at work. It’s nothing to be ashamed about or to apologize for. Crying is vulnerable and vulnerability is a strength, when used wisely. In this example, a manager gave me some very hasty, inaccurate feedback. This made me, understandably, emotional. I found power in articulating why I was crying. It was my way of holding that person accountable. And I stopped apologizing. This helped me release the shame attached to crying at work.
