Steve Jobs on what’s the secret sauce in entrepreneurship?

Steve Jobs had a pretty straight-up take on this:

You want to be an entrepreneur? Cool. But what’s your big idea? No idea yet? Jobs had a point for people in this boat: Get a job, any job.

Why? To find out what fires you up. Because let me tell you, starting a business is tough.

It’s not just tough; it's like climbing a mountain blindfolded.

You put everything into it, and there are times when you feel like throwing in the towel. That’s why passion isn’t just a nice-to-have. It's your lifeline.

Imagine trying to juggle a startup with family life. We’re talking 18-hour days, every day. Without being crazy passionate about your idea, chances are, you’ll burn out. So, find a problem that bugs you, something you really want to fix.

That’s your starting point.

a lot of people come to mean to say well i want to be an entrepreneur and i go that's great what's your idea i think oh i don't have one yet oh and i say well i think you should go get a job as a busboy or something so you find something you're really passionate about because
it's a lot of work
and i'm convinced that
about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non successful ones is pure perseverance
it is so hard
you pour so much your life into this thing and there are such rough moments in time than most people give up
i don't blame them i mean it's really tough
and it consumes your life if you've got a family
and you're in the early days of a company it's i can't
imagine how one can do it i'm sure it's it's been done but
it's rough because it's a pretty much you know at eighteen hour day job seven days a week for well
so
unless you have a lot of passion about this
you're gonna not
survive you're gonna give it up
so you gotta have an idea
and or a problem or a wrong that you want to write that you're passionate about
otherwise
you're not going to have the perseverance to stick through and i think that's half the battle right there
