yeah like you don't have any friends at work do this one thing during the hallway if you're in a zoom and it's just like that minute before everything starts brush holders in the bathroom whatever you know how someone says hey how's it going good how are you don't just say good how are you so i transferred into high school and transferred into college in every one of my jobs i've treated at the same i open up about a couple of things in my personal life that could be easily matched by the other person and here's what i mean hey amy how was your weekend was good i moved over the weekend what did you do i'm giving a little piece of personal information that's not too intimate and it invites the other person who just received a bit of personal information totally appropriate to either say i had a great weekend or they can kind of accept the invitation and give you a little tidbit back with people i work with regularly when i first started getting to know that i would take notes so i would remember what is their partner's name where their kids' names what sports are they into it they run marathons it's their favorite color how did they take their coffee or tea in the morning all of this helps when a birthday is coming up or the holidays for gifting when you're writing a note of encouragement but this little by little turns colleagues into friendly colleague and sometimes indifference stick around my name's amy help you get ahead
