so what's the difference between eating this cup of fruit and blending it into a smoothie if you've been told that getting your fruit in the form of a smoothie is a healthy practice that i'm here to tell you that that's absolutely wrong
and if you're a visual learner you're gonna want to see this i'm a human biology teacher on a quest to teach you what's going on inside your flesh suit so let's jump in so in the debate between whole fruit and smoothies there's a couple factors at play the first factor is that when you drink fruit instead of eat it it's as though the sugar has already been unlocked from inside the cells of the fruit if we were to zoom in and get a close up of this mango it would look something like this little tiny facts that are actually just filled with sugar when we eat whole fruit like this it takes some work to get those sex oh we do some of that work with our teeth somewhat the chemicals in our digestive system and some with the muscles of our digestive system and thus the sugar from this fruit can't hit our bloodstream quite as fast however when we blend up these little guys before we let them enter a digestive system
they burst open and release all of their sugar
and now this is just syrupy sugar water with a little bit of fiber and since the work of chewing has already been done for us this sugar is going to hit our bloodstream a lot faster than just munching on fruit alone and all this doesn't even bring up the fact that i had to adjust to this to make it blend nicely which essentially is just adding more sugar water to your sugar water the second factor that comes into play when you drink a fruit versus eating the fruit is the satiating effects you get from chewing so your body is programmed to release jail p one and reduce ghrelin when we chew and according to this study the more we choose the higher gp and the lower our grilling this combination of effects on our hormones actually helps us to feel full
